Welcome to Industrial/Rustic: Original designed, live edge & wood based furnishings; integrating art & function "simply for living simply."

I started collecting discarded & broken wood furniture in 2011. The image above encapsulated the spirit of my works at that time: The yellow deacons table of disparate pieces & found wood; found wood benches, hand sprayed stenciling; and a window seat totally re-visioned from a TV table. The back and arms were rescued from a late 19th c babies cradle. (See the transformation of this piece on the "Archives" page.)

Like all of my re-furnishing  they are not only functional gems, but one-of-a-kind, uncommon works of art.

As my vision for rescuing roadside items started to expand, I began "seeing" different components working together to create something like this unconventional night stand. After sanding and multiple layers of spray paint, the work just "needed" a over-sized top. A reclaimed table top made it.

This process start to finish is also in the "Archives" page.

Regardless of what I initially "see" for a finished work, I was constantly amazed of what the work really wanted to become!

These were drawers from a very large, solid oak antique roll top desk. (Notice the key holes in two of the drawers.) I wasn't able to get the entire desk out of the dumpster, but I certainly got all the drawers.

Sanding and then a light coating of a non-toxic preservative brought out the warm beauty of the oak. Turning the drawers on their side and installing barn wood in the wider part of the drawer created ready-to-hang shelving.

Stencils for all of my works are hand cut from designer wallpaper samples and then hand-sprayed.

I have over twenty stencils in my studio, but as each work projects its own "personality," more stencils are cut and fashioned exclusively for that work.

This side table illustrates a variety of several stencils  creating a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Hand-sprayed paints from original, hand-cut stencils showcased as "stained glass" on this vintage window.

Always an attraction, each window is a rarity and is often bought to complement a variety of other handmade re-furnishings.

I only work with wood framed glass windows. All are finished with a clear protective spray.

This particular window is about 18"x26" recovered from a renovation site.

I work with a variety of sizes, all are ready to hang and created as a beautiful, one-of-a-kind work of art...of course.

The fall of 2019 was a turning point for me in my work with found objects & wood designs.

I acquired quite a stack of centuries-old barn wood and live edged planks. As a result, my work moved toward creating one-of-a-kind benches & wood-base furnishings.

This image is only a small display of my ongoing works. I'm inspired by the materials & I anticipate that my vision will continue as I have come into an unlimited & wide variety clean-cut & live edged planks & barn wood.

        - From Raw Planks to Functional Works of Art -

I use a large variety of live edged planks & barn

wood most of which are dated from the early 19th

    century found on reconstruction sites.

The quality of the wood is unsurpassed.

Each plank "speaks" of its history and I feel it's

very important to create a finished work which

     honors that history.

The images below illustrate how different wood

"speak" to their function. Incorporating found,

natural branches adds to the total uniqueness of

and feel of the the work.

The process through a completed work varies from a few hours to a full eight hour day or with some works, several full days - depending on the project.

The new images of live edge benches above are samples depicting the overall character of my works.

Please continue your gallery walk to view the process of transforming raw planks into one-of-a-kind, functional work of art on the
"Live Edge & Barn woods" page.
